Cutting Costs While Going Green
With more than 90 years of history in Washington, building strong relationships within the community has always been important to Premera Blue Cross.
That’s why we are proud Snohomish County Public Utility District (PUD) recognized Premera with the “Largest Percent of Electricity Saved” award for commercial buildings in their strategic emergency management program. In 2025, we reduced electricity usage on our Mountlake Terrace campus by nearly 10% thanks to efficiency improvements. This earned Premera a rebate of almost $27,000 from the PUD, in addition to more than $26,000 saved in operational expenses.
These savings were realized through Premera’s participation in PUD’s Commercial Strategic Energy Management pilot program, in partnership with Stillwater Energy. More information about the program is available at Commercial Strategic Energy Management – Snohomish County PUD.
Not only does this achievement demonstrate Premera’s commitment to sustainability, but also our commitment to control operating costs. Healthcare is expensive, and we take seriously our responsibility to make our customers’ dollars work harder – always looking for innovative ways to reduce our administrative expenses.
Reducing energy usage benefits all PUD customers. When customers conserve energy, the PUD can avoid purchasing expensive infrastructure or buying power on the market. Conservation helps keep rates affordable for everyone.
